Our Story

Founded in 2018 by coffee enthusiasts Marc and Sophie Lefebvre, Café Moderne was born from a simple dream: to create Luxembourg's most welcoming third space where exceptional coffee meets genuine community.

After years of traveling through coffee-growing regions in Ethiopia, Colombia, and Guatemala, we developed direct relationships with small-scale farmers who share our commitment to sustainable, ethical practices. Every bean we serve tells a story of dedication, craftsmanship, and respect for the land.

Our philosophy is simple: quality over everything. We roast our beans in small batches right here in Luxembourg, ensuring maximum freshness. Our baristas aren't just employees—they're coffee artisans who undergo months of training to perfect their craft.

But great coffee is just the beginning. We've built Café Moderne to be a cultural hub in the heart of Luxembourg City, hosting live music, art exhibitions, book clubs, and community events that bring people together. This is more than a café—it's your home away from home.

With 15 years of experience in specialty coffee, Marc trained in Melbourne and Portland before returning to Luxembourg to open Café Moderne. His passion for direct-trade relationships ensures we always serve the finest beans.

Sophie's background in hospitality and interior design shaped Café Moderne's warm, welcoming atmosphere. She oversees our events program and community partnerships, making sure everyone feels at home here.

Head Barista & Trainer

A three-time Luxembourg Barista Championship finalist, Thomas brings precision and artistry to every cup. When he's not pulling perfect shots, he's training our team and developing new signature drinks.

Pastry Chef

Emma studied at Le Cordon Bleu Paris before joining our team. Every croissant, pastry, and baked good is made from scratch daily using traditional French techniques and local ingredients whenever possible.
